Touching photos of Queen Sonja have been released: “Thank you for a good life”

Programme of Events ahead of King Harald V’s funeral, on 9th September 2026:

• 12:00pm – Procession departs the Royal Palace en route to Oslo Cathedral. Those behind the Bier include the Royal Family, Foreign Royals, Heads of State & Prime Ministers, Representatives of the Kingdom of Norway & Members of the Royal Court.

• 1:00pm – State Funeral begins at Oslo Cathedral with a Moment of Silence. The Service will be led by Presiding Bishop Rev. Dr.Olav Fykse Tveit following the funeral liturgy of the Church of Norway. Various guest, including the President of the Storting & the Prime Minister, will speak.

• 2:00pm – State Funeral ends with the Procession forming outside the Cathedral en route to Akershus Fortress.

• 2:40pm – Procession arrives at Akershus Fortress followed by a Private Internment in the Royal Mausoleum. King Harald’s remains join that of the late King Haakon VII, Queen Maud, King Olav V & Crown Princess Märtha.
The joint Sarcophagus will be revealed after the internment has taken place.

• King Haakon VIII & Queen Mette-Marit emerge from Akershus Fortress for a double Royal-Salute with flags being raised to full-mast.

• The Norwegian Royal Family departs Akershus Fortress en route to the Royal Palace.

• The Royal Couple, Queen Sonja, Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra, & Prince Sverre Magnus appear from the Balcony of the Royal Palace.

• 5:00pm – King Haakon VIlI & Queen Mette-Marit host a State Reception at the Royal Palace.
